Following is a statement issued by the Social Welfare Department (SWD) today (June 21) in response to media enquiries about the court judgment on the judicial review of the residence requirement under the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme:
The SWD has noted the High Court judgment on the judicial review of the one-year-continuous-residence requirement for CSSA applicants. The department will study the judgment and its grounds.
In view of the court judgment, the SWD has, with immediate effect, shelved the one-year-continuous-residence requirement in handling new applications and re-applications for CSSA.
For applications that are still in progress, the department will take the initiative to inform the applicants concerned and process their applications in accordance with the same arrangement.
