**********************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of Kowloon Hospital (KH) today (June 19) made the following announcement regarding an incident of loss of a USB drive:

A clerk of School of General Nursing of Kowloon Hospital has stored the personal data (name, sex, phone number and email address of some pupils) of around 300 pupil nurses in a personal USB drive for daily contact purpose. On June 12 evening, the clerk discovered the loss of the USB drive at Tuen Mun LRT Station. She  immediately reported the incident to police and her supervisor.

The Nursing School has informed and apologised to all pupil nurses concerned. They were also advised to beware of receiving anonymous phone calls, and report to the Nursing School immediately if there was any. So far there was no report of such phone call. The hospital has already notified the Hospital Authority Head Office through the Advanced Incidents Reporting System (AIRS).

The clerk concerned is aware of the Hospital Authority Personal Data Protection Policies since she reported duty. KH is investigating the incident and will take the appropriate disciplinary actions for the concerned clerk.  KH has been reminding all staff to strictly comply with the guidelines on personal data protection. All personal data must be stored in encrypted storage media. KH will conduct more educational talks for staff on Personal Data Protection Policies and will remind hospital staff to handle personal data carefully to prevent recurrence of similar incident in future.
