The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 17) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $179,000 on behalf of 16 employees, who were owed mandatory provident fund (MPF) contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, seven defendants, namely Omnicon Events Limited, Denstar Electrical Appliances Limited, Supercom Asia Pacific Limited, Great Praise Holdings Limited, Triumph Fame Industrial Limited, HK Capital Logistics Limited and Fancy Leader Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $29,400, $27,562.5, $25,350, $22,141.87, $19,760.13, $17,032.8 and $12,837.74, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable respectively.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $149, $149, $149, $120, $256, $159 and $116 as the costs in respect of the claims.
