FS visits Eastern District (with photos/video)

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, today (May 11) visited the Eastern District to gain a better understanding of the latest mode of service delivery of two welfare facilities there.

     Greeted on site by the District Officer (Eastern), Mr Davis Hui, and the Director of Richmond Fellowship of Hong Kong, Dr Fung Cheung-tim, Mr Tsang was briefed on the operation of the New Jade Manufacturing Centre which is tasked to provide integrated vocational rehabilitation service for formerly mentally ill persons.

     Mr Tsang said that the Government is committed to promoting mental health through the provision of a comprehensive range of mental health services.  In the 2010-11 Budget, over $100 million has been earmarked for launching new programmes for patients with severe mental illnesses and common mental disorders.

     Accompanied by the President of Youth Outreach, Mr Francis Cheung, and its Executive Director, Dr Peter Newbery, Mr Tsang proceeded to Youth Outreach in Sai Wan Ho where he had a frank exchange with the frontline programme assistants who provide services for youth at risk.  Mr Tsang encouraged them to address the changing and multifarious needs of young people.

     Before concluding the district visit, Mr Tsang had a tea gathering with the chairman, vice-chairman and committee chairmen of the Eastern District Council to listen to their views on district governance.
