The Government today (April 30) gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Liberia) Regulation 2010 and the United Nations Sanctions (Liberia) Regulation 2009 (Repeal) Regulation. The Regulation (except the provisions that relate to financial sanctions) came into effect on the same date. The provisions of the Regulation relating to financial sanctions and the Repeal Regulation will come into effect next Friday (May 7).
"The Regulations implement sanctions against Liberia imposed by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 1903 and continue the implementation of the existing financial sanctions against Liberia under the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1532," a Government spokesman said.
The sanctions under the Regulation include:
* prohibition against the supply, sale, transfer or carriage of arms or related materiel to a person operating in the territory of Liberia;
* prohibition against the provision of assistance, advice or training related to military activities to a person operating in the territory of Liberia;
* prohibition against making available to certain persons or entities funds or other financial assets or economic resources, or dealing with funds or other financial assets or economic resources of certain persons or entities; and
* prohibition against entry into or transit through the HKSAR by certain persons.
