Stage 2 Community Engagement for Study on Enhancement of Lau Fau Shan Rural Township and Surrounding Areas launched
************************************************************

The Planning Department today (March 12) launched the Stage 2 Community Engagement for the "Study on the Enhancement of the Lau Fau Shan Rural Township and Surrounding Areas".

The Study, begun in February 2009, is intended to realise the tourism and recreational potential of Lau Fau Shan and its surrounding areas by proposing improvement projects with conceptual schemes and design drawings which are compatible with the existing natural and cultural environment. With a total area of about 565 hectares, the Study mainly covers the coastal areas of Deep Bay in the vicinity of Lau Fau Shan, stretching from the Kong Sham Western Highway in the south to Tsim Bei Tsui in the north.

In the Stage 1 Community Engagement conducted in mid-2009, the vision and guiding principles established were well supported by the public. Taking into account the views/comments collected and the findings of the baseline review, the Study team has formulated the planning framework and conceptual schemes. Each Focus Study Area will also be enhanced under different themes.

The Stage 2 Community Engagement, which will last for two months until May 12, is mainly to present the proposed planning framework and conceptual schemes to the public and seek their views so as to ascertain the acceptability of these proposals.

A public forum will be held on March 27 in Lau Fau Shan and roving exhibitions to display the relevant information will also be held at various locations in the vicinity of Lau Fau Shan. Members of the public are welcome to visit the Planning Department's homepage ( www.pland.gov.hk ) for details of the Stage 2 Community Engagement events.
