Exco member's remarks on Budget
*******************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Executive Council Secretariat:

The Convenor of the Non-official Members of the Executive Council (Exco), Mr Leung Chun-ying, and some Exco Members met the media on the 2010-11 Budget at the Legislative Council Building today (February 24). Following is the transcript (English portion) of the media session:

Reporter: Mr Leung, do you think there is enough measure to deal with the poverty problem, and what do you think of the budget?

Convenor of the Exco Non-official Members: The Financial Secretary, in his current Budget, has made pretty comprehensive provisions to deal with the poverty issue, both short, medium and long-term. If you look at the three objectives of the Budget, namely consolidating the recovery, developing economy and building a caring community, its last objective occupies a very major part of this Budget, not just in terms of the time it took to finish this particular part of his speech, but also in terms of financial provision. So I think the Financial Secretary and the entire Government is fully aware of and pays adequate attention to the question of poverty and the related social issues.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
