Awards recognise outstanding achievements in ICT (with photos)

     The outstanding achievements of the local information and communications technology (ICT) sector were recognised at the presentation ceremony of the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2009 tonight (January 19).

     The Hong Kong Observatory received the Award of the Year from the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, the officiating guest at the presentation ceremony. The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, presented the Grand Awards to the winners of nine award categories.

     Addressing the ceremony, Mr Tsang stressed that developing advanced ICT applications and services would help to maintain Hong Kongˇ¦s competitive edge and uphold its status as a regional business hub.

     He said: "The ICT Awards are now in their fourth year, and continue to go from strength to strength. There were some 640 entries this year, about double the number last year."

     The Hong Kong ICT Awards were established in 2006 under a collaborative effort among industry, academia and the Government. Its aim is to build a large scale and internationally recognised brand for the ICT awards in Hong Kong.

     The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2009 comprise nine award categories. There is one Grand Award in each category and an Award of the Year is selected among the nine Grand Award winners to recognise remarkable achievement. The Grand Award winners and their entries are:

1. Best Business Grand Award:
   Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd (Logistic Control System (LCS2))

2. Best Collaboration Grand Award:
   3D QuickTools Ltd (3D Metal Tooling Design Software)

3. Best Digital Entertainment Grand Award:
   Yip Wing Chung (The Shoes)

4. Best Digital Inclusion Grand Award:
   The Hong Kong Society for the Aged (Brain Fitness Gymnasium for the Elderly)

5. Best Innovation & Research Grand Award:
   The Hong Kong Observatory, HKSAR Government (LIDAR Windshear Alerting System)

6. Best Lifestyle Grand Award:
   Music Powerhouse Ltd (MPh Music Discovery System)

7. Best Professional Development Grand Award:
   Information Systems Audit and Control Association China Hong Kong Chapter (Certified Information System Auditor (CISA) Certification Program)  

8. Best Public Service Application Grand Award:
   Efficiency Unit, Chief Secretary for Administration's Office, HKSAR Government (Complaints Intelligence System)

9. Best Ubiquitous Networking Grand Award:
   Xtown Mobile Ltd (Xtown Mobile Publishing System)
