Proposed sewerage works in Tuen Mun Area 54 approved
****************************************************

The Chief Executive in Council had authorised the scheme for the sewerage works near Tsz Tin Road, at San Fuk Road and Tsun Wen Road in Area 54, Tuen Mun, a spokesman for the Environmental Protection Department said today (December 18).

The sewerage works under the scheme mainly involve the construction of a sewage pumping station near the eastern end of San Fuk Road, about 1,100 metres of rising mains, and about 100 metres of gravity sewers and associated manholes. They also involve the ancillary works including reinstatement of the affected carriageways, footpaths and open space.

"The sewerage works under the scheme will collect the sewage from the proposed sewerage system in Tuen Mun Area 54, the existing sewers of the nearby villages and the proposed Tuen Mun North Sewage Pumping Station, and discharge to the proposed sewer at Ming Kum Road.

"The scheme will effectively convey the collected sewage for proper treatment and disposal, which will improve the living environment of the area and help reduce pollution to the coastal water of Tuen Mun," the spokesman said.

Construction works, to be carried out by the Civil Engineering and Development Department, are scheduled to begin in 2012 for completion by 2015.

Details of the sewerage scheme were published in the Government Gazette on October 24 and 31 last year.  Approval for the sewerage scheme was gazetted today.
