Consultation forum to collect views on testing and certification
***************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification:

The Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification will hold a consultation forum on November 27 (Friday) to collect views from the testing and certification industry.

The Council would like to hear views on the opportunities and challenges faced by the testing and certification industry and the development strategy for strengthening the capacity and capability of the sector.

The views collected will help the Council in drawing up a three-year market-oriented development plan for consideration by the Chief Executive.

A spokesman for the Council said that practitioners in the testing and certification industry, representatives from chambers of commerce and trade associations as well as the general public are welcome to attend the forum.

Testing and certification is one of the six economic areas identified by the Task Force on Economic Challenges for promotion. Following the Task Force's recommendation, the Government established the Council in September this year to spearhead the development of the testing and certification industry.  The Council includes practitioners from the testing and certification industry, the business sector, professional bodies as well as relevant public bodies and government departments.

The Council's priority task is to work with the industry to formulate a three-year market-driven development plan within six months of its establishment for submission to the Chief Executive by early 2010.

The forum will be held at the Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Space Museum, Tsim Sha Tsui, between 3pm and 5pm.

For details about the forum and registration, please view the Council's website at www.hkctc.gov.hk.
