10 employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:


     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 11) obtained orders in the District Court against four employers for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $394,000. The MPFA also pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $87,000 on behalf of nine employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court issued judgments against Asia Intelligence (HK) Limited, Go On Digital Limited, Manson Water And Electric Company Limited and Alexsin Fashion Mfy Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA $245,099.32, $65,565.12, $62,954.79 and $20,719.48, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 154, five, four and four employees of the defendants respectively.

     At the tribunal's hearing, Treble Paper Co Ltd, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $29,263.50, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The Adjudicator also ordered Treble Paper Co Ltd to pay the MPFA $5,000 being financial penalty imposed by the MPFA for failure to make MPF contributions for employees.

     Another five defendants, Speeda Logistics Limited, Land Asia Management Limited, Igloo Company Limited, Cheung Chi Ming And Cheng Kan Shing formerly trading as Ever Lucks Bags Co. and Cargo Mart (Hong Kong) Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $29,350.88, $16,070.96, $11,245.84, $1,182.94 and $564.40 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants to each pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $230, $115, $65, $129, $129 and $109.
