Woman fined for illegal clubhouse operation
*******************************************

A woman was today (October 27) fined $3,000 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The Eastern Magistrates' Courts heard that a club on Jaffe Road, Causeway Bay, operated with a certificate of compliance (CoC) under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance, was inspected by officers of the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of Home Affairs Department in April.  OLA officers, posing as customers, patronised the clubhouse for drinks and snacks without their membership status being verified or being invited to join the club as members. Condition 19 of the CoC was breached.

The woman, holder of the CoC, was charged for contravening Section 21(2) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said robust enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations.
