Seven employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 14) obtained two orders in the District Court against two employers for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $200,000. The MPFA also pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $25,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued judgments against Yip Ki Wa trading as Hoi Tat Transportation Co. and Sure Giant Limited trading as 616 Shabu Shabu & Sushi. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA $107,625 and $100,618.82, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to three and 21 employees of the defendants respectively.

     At the tribunal's hearing, Keen Centre Limited did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $9,182.52, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     Another four defendants, Spotting Media Limited, King Loyal Development Limited trading as Friends Hot Pot (translation), Waiss Interior Limited and China Marina Club Development Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $10,916.52, $5,640.60, $4,743.40 and $656.25 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants to each pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $80, $135, $135, $145 and $86.
