Man jailed for making and passing counterfeit banknotes

A 34-year-old man was sentenced to 10 months¡¦ imprisonment for making and passing counterfeit banknotes at Tsuen Wan Magistrates¡¦ Courts today (September 10).

The court heard that the man had made counterfeit Hong Kong banknotes in face value of $10, $20 and $50 by using computer, scanner and printer at his residence in Kwai Chung between March 1 and April 27 this year. He then passed the fake notes at shops in the area.

After extensive investigations by the Commercial Crime Bureau, the man was arrested in Kwai Chung on May 19 and a small quantity of Ice was seized in his possession.

The man was subsequently charged with making and passing counterfeit banknotes and possession of dangerous drug and sentenced was handed down today.

According to the Crimes Ordinance, it is an offence to make or pass counterfeit banknotes. The maximum penalty is 14 years¡¦ imprisonment upon conviction.
