******************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Tuen Mun District Council:

A dazzling pyrotechnics display will light up the sky above Tuen Mun on September 19 (Saturday) in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The convenor of Tuen Mun District Council's Tuen Mun District Festive Activities Co-ordinating Working Group, Mr Kenneth Lau, spoke to the media today (September 2) to give details on the pyrotechnics display.

Mr Lau said, "The display will start at 8pm on September 19 and last for 20 minutes during which colourful pyrotechnics will be shown accompanied by background music revolving around the theme to present a stunning audio-visual experience for the audience.

"For the first time in Hong Kong, a pyrotechnics screen 100 metres high and 600 metres wide will be created off the sea in Tuen Mun. Special effects will be choreographed to craft a spectacular impact to enhance the viewing experience."

The display will feature eight scenes with music, including the national anthem, the 2009 East Asian Games theme song and the Yellow River Concerto, to go with the specially designed pyrotechnics effects.

To be shown at the sea off the Tuen Mun Promenade, the display can be viewed from the promenade and beaches in Tuen Mun, including Butterfly Beach, Golden Beach, Hong Kong Gold Coast Dolphin Square, Cafeteria Old Beach, Cafeteria New Beach, Kadoorie Beach and Castle Peak Beach.

Mr Lau said, "A large-scale beach concert will be held at Golden Beach and Cafeteria New Beach from 7.30pm to 10pm on the event day. Besides viewing the spectacular pyrotechnics display, participants can enjoy a fun-filled evening with a variety of cultural performances, such as drumming, Chinese folk dancing, Chinese traditional 'changing faces' and wushu."

In view of public safety and space concerns, people planning to enjoy the events at the Tuen Mun Promenade, Golden Beach and Cafeteria New Beach are required to obtain tickets in advance. A total of 20,000 tickets will be distributed to the public.

Tickets will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis from 2pm to 5pm on September 5 (Saturday) and September 6 (Sunday) at the ground floor of Tuen Mun Government Offices and the ground floor of Butterfly Bay Community Centre. Tickets to enter the Tuen Mun Promenade viewing area will be distributed on September 5 while those for the beach concert will be distributed on September 6. Each person is allowed a maximum of two tickets.

The designated viewing zone is clearly printed on the front of the tickets, and post-event public transport arrangements can be found on the back.

No tickets are required for other viewing zones (inlcuding Butterfly Beach, Hong Kong Gold Coast Dolphin Square, Cafeteria Old Beach, Kadoorie Beach and Castle Peak Beach). However, the public should follow the crowd control measures implemented by the Police and organiser at the scene.

To facilitate the public to enter and leave the viewing locations in a safe and orderly manner, crowd control and special traffic arrangements will be implemented by the Police, Transport Department and Marine Department on the event day. The public can visit the websites of the Transport Department (www.td.gov.hk) and Marine Department (www.mardep.gov.hk) for information on the land traffic and transport arrangements.

The public is advised to take heed of announcements made by the relevant departments, remain patient and follow the instructions of the authorities on that day.

In case of inclement weather, the events will be postponed to September 20 (Sunday). The public is advised to pay attention to announcements by the organiser.
