Seven employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 31) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $202,000 on behalf of 142 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     Chu Wai Hay trading as Wai Sing Steel Welding Engineering and Au Yeung Kwong Wah trading as Wah Hing Cleaning Company, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $49,568.44 and $44,133.75, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other five defendants, Namwing Food And Beverage Company trading as Shun Tin Restaurant, The Spa By L & Y Limited, Venezia Environmental Services Limited, Sik Wai Sin Restaurant Limited and Chong Mun trading as Mun Kee Engineering Co, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $44,771.76, $23,901.03, $23,042.25, $11,758.77 and $5,048.75, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $199, $209, $225, $130, $126, $96 and $129.
