Islands district holds anti-drug cum fight crime publicity campaign (with photo)

     The Islands District Council, Islands District Fight Crime Committee, Marine Port District, Islands District Office, Marine Port District Junior Police Call, Cheung Chau, Lamma Island and Peng Chau Rural Committee organised an anti-drug and fight crime publicity campaign yesterday (August 21) to appoint 30 Anti-drug Ambassadors to disseminate anti-drug messages in the neighbourhood.

     The Ambassadors, comprising secondary school students and residents in the district, received the certificates of appointment and pledged at the ceremony last night. They will receive training to better understand the drug problem and related services. They will participate in upcoming community anti-drug activities to help bring the anti-drug messages to every corner of the district.

     The Chairman of Islands District Council cum Chairman of Peng Chau Rural Committee, Mr Lam Wai-keung, the Islands District Officer, Mr Byron Lam, Regional Commander (Marine), Ms Chang Mo-see, and other guests officiated at the opening ceremony.

     Mr Lam Wai-keung said, ˇ§The campaign aims to call for concerted efforts from community groups and residents to fight against the drug abuse problem. The Islands District Council sponsors a wide variety of youth programme each year to help the youngsters develop positive values of life and keep away from drugs.ˇ¨

     Mr Byron Lam said, ˇ§The Government highly concerns about the youth drug problem. To pull all sectors together to help beat the drugs and show the communityˇ¦s care to youngsters, a series of anti-drug publicity and education programmes have been launched in Islands district since July.ˇ¨

     He added, ˇ§The Islands District Office and Islands District Council will continue to work closely with other government departments, non-government organisations and community groups, and organise an anti youth drug programme from August in Islands district. Under the programme, various anti-drug activities and training, including talk, counselling, drug rehabilitation and leisure and sports training, will be held to build a drug-free community.ˇ¨

     An anti-drug colouring competition and a singing contest were previously held, and prizes were presented at the ceremony last night. Game booths and variety shows were also staged to promote a ˇ§Drug-Free Communityˇ¨.

     Other guests at the ceremony were the District Commissioner, Marine Port District, Mr Leung Man-kon, Islands District Council Vice-Chairman, Ms Chau Chuen-heung, District Social Welfare Officer (Central, Western, Southern and Islands), Mr Kok Che-leung, Islands District Fight Crime Committee Chairman cum Cheung Chau Rural Committee, Mr Yung Chi-ming, Islands District Fight Crime Committee Working Group Chairman, Mr Li Kwok-wah, Chairman of Marine Port District Junior Police Call Honorary President Council, Mr Leung On-fuk, 3rd Vice-Chairman of Marine Port District Junior Police Call Honorary President Council, Mr Li Fung-lok, Chairman of Lamma Island South Rural Committee, Mr Chow Yuk-tong, Chairman of Lamma Island North Rural Committee, Mr Chan Lin-wai, Vice-chairman of Cheung Chau Rural Committee, Mr Cheung Ming-fai and District Leisure Manager (Islands), Ms Vienna Tam.
