Nine employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 13) pursued nine claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $171,000 on behalf of 35 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Vevion Hong Kong Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $21,786.29, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other eight defendants, namely Venezia Environmental Services Limited, Sam's & Associates Limited, Chan Wai Yung trading as Rainbow (INT'L ) Weaving Factory, Tin Wong Restaurant Limited, Wah Tai Farm Company Limited, Tang Tat Worldwide Logistics,  Wong Sui Yin trading as Cambridge Hire Car Company and Tai Wai Brother trading Transportation Company Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $44,583.9, $43,567.02, $17,325, $14,566.87, $14,253.3, $10,040.7, $4,000 and $1,627.56, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $110,$186, $224, $120, $155, $90, $80, $129 and $134 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     Vevion Hong Kong Limited and Wah Tai Farm Company Limited pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to four and 29 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and were fined $12,000 and $9,700 respectively.
