Arrangements for Secondary Six admission procedure in inclement weather
******************************************************

The Education Bureau announced today (August 4) that as a tropical cyclone is approaching Hong Kong, if Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 / Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is still in force at 5am tomorrow (August 5) morning, stage I of the Secondary 6 admission procedure scheduled for tomorrow morning will be postponed.  Schools and current year HKCEE participants should pay attention to announcements on radio and television.

If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 / Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is cancelled before 11am tomorrow, schools may start stage I of the procedure upon collection of their students' HKCEE Results Notices.  To ensure students' safety and allow them sufficient time to return to schools, stage I will start at 2pm and be extended to 6pm tomorrow.

If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 / Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is still in force at 11am tomorrow, the procedure will be postponed by one day until the morning of August 6, 2009.  For details of the revised arrangements should the procedure be postponed, please refer to the procedure web page at (www.edb.gov.hk/s6ap_e).

An Education Bureau spokesman stressed, "As application for S6 places is not accepted on a first-come-first-served basis, the Education Bureau appeals to students and parents not to go to the schools to submit applications when Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 / Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is still in force.

"However, schools should closely monitor the situation and take appropriate contingency measures to ensure students' safety," the spokesman added.
