The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (August 2) that since the test results of the latest water samples of Morse Park Swimming Pool are up to standard, the six swimming pools which have been closed since July 30 would be reopened at 10.30am today.
An earlier water test result revealed that the E. coli counts of pool water in the main pool, the secondary pool and the teaching pool No. 3, and the total bacteria counts of the main pool and the teaching pool No. 3 had exceeded the prescribed limit. As the pools share the sterilisation and filtration system with three other pools (the diving pool and teaching pools No. 1 and 2), the department closed the six pools for checking, sterilisation and cleansing.
A spokesman stressed that as a standard practice, water in all its swimming pools is continuously filtered and sterilised throughout the opening hours. The water quality is closely monitored by regular laboratory tests to ensure that the public can safely swim in the pools. The test results will be announced at the pools and on the department's website.
"Inspection shows the sterilisation and filtration systems are working properly. The hygiene of the surrounding environment of the pools is in order. The department will continue to study the cause of the
incident and continue to stringently monitor and upkeep the hygiene standard of pool water," the spokesman said.
