Information Expo for Secondary School Leavers 2009 opens (with photos)

¡@¡@¡@The annual Information Expo for Secondary School Leavers opens today (July 18) with new elements to suit different needs.

¡@¡@¡@Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Information Expo for Secondary School Leavers 2009, the Deputy Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Wong, said the event had always been popular among students and parents since it began six years ago. "This year, we have extended the opening hours and introduced more topics for the talks," Mr Wong said.

¡@¡@¡@"The Education Bureau has been striving to provide a wide range of information on further studies for Secondary 5 and Secondary 7 school leavers," he said, "As well as organsing the Info Expo, we have recently updated the Information Portal for Accredited Self-financing Post-secondary Programmes (iPASS) website."

¡@¡@¡@The website contains information on self-financing programmes offered by various post-secondary institutions in the 2009-10 academic year.

¡@¡@¡@"We hope that students will make good use of various types of information on further studies, and choose programmes which best suit their abilities and interests."

¡@¡@¡@The Info Expo is held from 10am to 8pm today and tomorrow at Olympian City 2, West Kowloon. It is organised by the Education Bureau, with the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters and the Hong Kong Education City as supporting organisations. Admission is free.

¡@¡@¡@More than 20 post-secondary and vocational education institutions are participating in the Info Expo. It provides comprehensive information on multiple pathways, including locally accredited post-secondary programmes, vocational education, the iPASS website and Project Yi Jin. There will also be information services for non-Chinese speaking students.

¡@¡@¡@Talks on various topics will be held at the Info Expo, such as the Secondary 6 admission procedure, tips for secondary graduates, sub-degree programmes in different subject areas and vocational training.

¡@¡@¡@The Education Bureau, in co-operation with the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters, has also produced careers guidance handbooks for Secondary 5 and Secondary 7 students. The electronic versions of the handbooks can be downloaded from (www.ipass.gov.hk/eng/hb.aspx).  

¡@¡@¡@A joint registration for Project Yi Jin will be held on August 8 and 9 at the Hong Kong International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kowloon Bay. For details, please check the website (www.edb.org.hk/yijin).

     With the approach of Tropical Cyclone Molave, members of the public are advised to pay attention to the radio and television annoucements about any special arrangements on Info Expo.
