Milestones reached for implementation of the New Academic Structure
**********************************************************

To assist schools to implement the New Senior Secondary (NSS) Structure in the coming school years in a holistic manner, the Education Bureau (EDB) has issued the Circular Memorandum (CM) No 99/2009 today (July 3) to provide the latest development, major recommendations, university announcements and key information on the New Academic Structure for Senior Secondary Education and Higher Education (NAS).

It also serves as a comprehensive document containing all the important milestones reached.

The NSS curriculum will be implemented in September leading to the new Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination to be administered in 2012 for the first time.

The CM has highlighted the latest developments of the inclusion of Chinese Language for Non-Chinese Speaking Students under the NAS; further announcement of the general entrance requirements of the eight University Grants Committee-funded institutions; the recognition of Other Languages as unspecified elective subjects; the acceptance of alternative Chinese qualifications for university admission and major developments on HKDSE-related matters.

EDB greatly appreciates the very high level of participation and commitment of the school sector as well as the support from the community.  The concerted efforts they have rendered for the smooth implementation of the NAS are highly regarded.  Interested parties are welcome to visit the New Academic Structure ¡§334¡¨ Web Bulletin (www.edb.gov.hk/334) regularly for the latest development.
