S for S talks about planned procession by Police officers
*********************************************************

Following is the transcript (English portion) of the remarks made by the Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, at a media session after attending the Legislative Council meeting this afternoon (June 24):

Reporter: What is your appeal to police officers who are planning to march on Sunday¡K?

Secretary for Security: As I said yesterday, our disciplined services, including our Police department, have always been held in high esteem by our residents in Hong Kong. I would urge colleagues that when considering taking part in the procession this Sunday, they should also consider whether their action will backfire, taking into consideration the current economic situation and the feeling of the general public. We have an established mechanism to deal with staff pay, staff structure and welfare. So I would urge our colleagues in the Police department to make use of the established mechanism to air their views. I would not encourage colleagues to take their action on the street because there is an established mechanism to resolve the issue.
