Transcript of CE's remarks after Exco meeting (with video)
**********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks (English portion) by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, at a media session after the Executive Council meeting this morning (June 23):

Chief Executive: The Chief Executive-in-Council has just decided on the civil service pay adjustment for this year (2009-10). The Secretary for Civil Service will convey the decision to the staff side. She will then brief you on the details later today.

Today, we also briefed the Executive Council on the recommendations of the Task Force on Economic Challenges and the Government's response to them.  Members gave full support for the proposed course of actions.

The TFEC recommendations have underlined our new mindset in tackling the new economic environment.

The financial tsunami has prompted us to think deeply about Hong Kong's long-term prospect in encouraging us to explore new areas of growth. Meanwhile, we realise that the rapid growth of the Mainland economy could mean a huge market for our six "priority" industries.

To grasp these new opportunities, we are prepared to be innovative in removing the obstacles in the further development of these industries, including the problem of shortage of land. We are determined to press ahead with our action plan. And I will update the community on the progress in my next Policy Address in October.

     Thank you very much.
