The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 22) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $19,000 on behalf of 24 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At the tribunal's hearing today, the three defendants, namely Million Profit (China) Limited trading as Royal Plaza Court Seafood Restaurant, ESI Courier (HK) Limited and Citiwell (H.K.) Limited trading as Yau Gwat Hei, did not appear. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $7,850.65, $6,026.7 and $6,008.78, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $110, $96 and $135 as the costs in respect of the claims.

Million Profit (China) Limited trading as Royal Plaza Court Seafood Restaurant pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to eight counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $23,500.
