Four employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 18) obtained three orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $293,000 against three employers in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $45,000 on behalf of six employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employer.

     The District Court today issued three judgments against three employers, namely, Le Hibou Limited, Sky Profit International Holdings Limited and Good Fair Holdings Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $153,169.91, $86,762.9 and $52,861.78, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 22, 10 and 16 employees of the defendants respectively.

     Meanwhile, at the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Portland Cafˆm Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $45,237.41, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at both the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants each to pay costs of $930 and the tribunal ordered the defendant to pay $176 as the cost of the claims.
