2009 provisional registers of electors released tomorrow
********************************************************

The 2009 provisional registers of electors will be released tomorrow (June 15) for public inspection until June 29.

"More than 3,370,000 registered electors are carried in the provisional register for geographical constituencies.  Among them, about 60,000 electors are newly registered," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (June 14).

With the deletions of electors who had passed away or who had not reported their latest residential addresses to the REO, the number of registered electors is roughly the same compared with 2008.

The number of electors in the provisional register for functional constituencies has decreased by about 3,000 to about 227,000.

More statistical information about these provisional registers will be available tomorrow at the voter registration website (www.voterregistration.gov.hk).

"All validated applications for registration as electors, and changes of particulars that have been made known to the REO, are included in the respective provisional registers," the spokesman said.

The REO will also publish the omissions lists tomorrow.  The omissions lists contain the names of persons who are no longer eligible for registration, which will be removed from the respective registers.

Anyone who has applied to register but does not find his name in the relevant register, or whose name is included in an omissions list, or who finds that his entries are incorrectly recorded, may lodge a notice of claim in person with the REO by June 29.

Anyone who considers that a person is not eligible to be registered may lodge a notice of objection in person with the REO by June 29.

Specified forms for claims and objections are obtainable from the REO or can be downloaded at www.reo.gov.hk/en/voter/application.htm.

"Those on the provisional registers should report any change in addresses and other registration particulars to the REO by June 29," the spokesman said.

"Failure to do so may affect their eligibility to vote in future Legislative Council and District Council elections," he said.

For geographical constituencies, full copies of the provisional register will be available for public inspection during ordinary business hours from Monday to Friday at the REO at 10/F Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai. The relevant section of the register pertinent to a particular district will be available at the respective District Office.

Full copies of the omissions list for the geographical constituencies will be available for public inspection at the REO's Harbour Centre office and the various District Offices.

For functional constituencies and Election Committee subsectors, full copies of the provisional registers and omissions lists are available for public inspection at the REO's Harbour Centre office and its office at 10/F Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai. They are also placed at the District Offices in Central, Mong Kok, Kwun Tong, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan.

Members of the public can call the REO hotline, 2891 1001, to check if their names are listed in the provisional registers or the omissions lists.

The REO will publish the final registers on or before July 25.
