Three employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 12) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $92,000 on behalf of 12 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, one of the defendants, Hui Hong Por trading as Yat Luen Engin Co., did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $45,541.14, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other two defendants, Genesys Broadcasting Corporation Limited and Huada Group International Co., Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $37,854.46 and $8,710.7, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the defendants to pay $170, $176 and $115 as the costs in respect of the claims.
