Employers to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 22) pursued 10 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $92,000 on behalf of 128 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, four defendants, namely Chung Fuk Yu trading as Po On Loong, China Legend Enterprises Limited trading as Yau Gwat Hei Seafood Restaurant, Uprising Corporation Limited trading as Yau Gwat Hei Hotpot Specialty Shop and Lucky Wish Investment Limited trading as Yau Gwat Hei Hotpot Specialty Shop, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $16,905, $13,625.71, $10,132.38 and $4,358.9 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other six defendants, namely Kentoys Limited, Profession Bag Company Limited, Top Smart Property Management Limited, Lotto Enterprise Limited, Wong Man Yin Tony trading as Soymilk Coffee and China Marina Club Development Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $30,682.19, $6,538, $6,062.7, $3,937.5, $525.92 and $155.75, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $159, $136, $136, $166, $110, $145, $90, $106, $109 and $60 as the costs in respect of the claims.
