The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 30) pursued 13 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $139,000 on behalf of 49 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
Four defendants, Massgood Investment Limited trading as Masswell Parking Equipment & Consultant Company, Ocean Channel Engineering Transportation Company Limited, Lee Wai Ming and Chu Tak Ming formerly trading as Wai Tak Engineering Company and Shek Hiu Yin Georgina formerly known as Shek Man Yin Georgina formerly trading as Club Libra, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $35,910, $30,771.13, $17,646.33 and $2,203.72 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other nine defendants, Spi Marketing Limited, Multi-Dimension Institute Limited, Kar Poa Motor Service Centre Co Limited, Jaff Development Limited trading as Good News, Fidelity Concept Development Limited trading as Royal Plaza Restaurant, Hoi Fat Seafood Company Limited, Coboship Logistics Limited, Sin Ho Kau trading as Hop Tak Lann and Lam Yat Ki formerly trading as H.L.T. Company, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $24,187.66, $9,966.59, $7,241.60, $4,029.37, $3,708.67, $3,117.41, $300.10, $300 and $217.50, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $246, $159, $268, $140, $121, $166, $81, $135, $90, $145, $96, $109 and $119.
