Four employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 20) obtained two orders in the District Court against two employers for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $190,000. The MPFA also pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $14,000 on behalf of nine employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued judgments against Chun sing Logistics (Asia) Limited and Synapse Instrument Co Ltd . The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA $124,162.50 and $71,010, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to eight and four employees of the defendants respectively.

     At the tribunal's hearing, Hoi On Security Company Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $12,785.25, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     Group Idea Limited trading as Great Shanghai Yap Pan Heung Restaurant, did not appear and in its absence was ordered to pay the MPFA $1,684.72, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants to each pay costs of $930 and the tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $187 and $90.

     Hoi On Security Company Limited was previously fined $8,000 in Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts for failing to enrol an employee in an MPF scheme.
