The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 17) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $140,000 on behalf of 22 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
Kin Kee Machinery Removal and Transportation Ltd, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $45,795, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other six defendants, U-sing Industrial Co Ltd, R T Toys Limited, Shanwoo Haider (HK) Industrial Co. Ltd, I-business Services Limited, Design East (International) Ltd and Han Kwok Chung, Sam and Han Kwok Leung, Andy trading as Team Work De-Coiffure, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $48,312.5, $25,519.96, $15,000, $10,269, $4,375 and $3,187.80, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $220, $186, $126, $236, $96, $80 and $190.
