To compile the Provisional Register of Electors for the 2009 Village Representative Election, the Home Affairs Department (HAD) is now conducting an exercise to verify the registration particulars of all registered electors, an HAD spokesman said today (March 6).
The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of the Village Representative Election will send letters to all registered electors for verification of their registration particulars as recorded in the Final Register of Electors published in 2008.
In order to ensure the accuracy of this year's Final Register of Electors, which will be published on or before October 20, 2009, the report on changes of personal particulars should reach the ERO on or before September 23, 2009.
If registered electors are no longer eligible to vote, the ERO will enter their names on the omissions list when compiling the Provisional Register of Electors of 2009.
The spokesman reminded all registered electors of Resident Representative Elections that, under the Village Representative Election Ordinance, a registered elector for an Existing Village must be a resident of that village and a Hong Kong permanent resident, and must have been a resident of the village for the three years immediately before the date of application for registration.
If an elector has moved out of the village for which he is registered or the principal residential address in the Register of Electors is no longer the address of his sole or main home, he is disqualified from being registered as an elector. It is an offence if he votes in the election of that village. He should notify the ERO of such a change as soon as possible.
