Company and woman fined for unlicensed clubhouse operation
**********************************************************

A company and a woman were today (February 11) fined $2,000 and $1,000 respectively for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The Kowloon City Magistrates' Court heard that the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department issued a warning letter to a suspected unlicensed clubhouse in Haiphong Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, in June last year. The OLA inspected the same premises in July last year and found signage at the entrance of the building and the premises. The woman who was responsible for the daily operation of the premises admitted that food and beverage services were provided to its members. According to the OLA's records, the premises did not hold a certificate of exemption or certificate of compliance. The company, operator of the premises, and the woman, manager of the premises, were charged with contravening section 4(1) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said robust enforcement action would continue to be taken against unlicensed clubhouse operations.
