FS visits Kwai Chung to see after-school services (with photos/ video)
********************************************************

The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, visited Kwai Chung this afternoon (February 10) to learn more about the provision of after-school services for primary school students in the district.

Accompanied by Chief School Development Officer (Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing) of the Education Bureau, Mr Mark Wan, Mr Tsang first visited the CNEC Ta Tung School in Kwai Hing Estate to observe students learning in remedial classes.

These classes cater for non-Chinese speaking students and local students and are supported by the School-based After-School Learning and Support Programmes, launched by the Education Bureau.

Mr Tsang chatted with the students to get a better understanding of what they learnt beyond regular classes.

He commended the school management's efforts to improve the Chinese language standard of non-Chinese speaking students to help them integrate into the local community and also the assistance given to local students to enhance their academic ability.

Mr Tsang then visited the ABWE Shing Yan Christian Social Service Centre in Kwai Shing West Estate.

Accompanied by District Social Welfare Officer (Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing) of the Social Welfare Department, Mr Peter Ng, Mr Tsang was briefed on the After School Care Programme (ASCP), launched by the Social Welfare Department.

The ASCP aims to provide support services for children aged 6 to 12 whose parents are unable to provide proper care for them after school hours owing to work or other reasons. Services provided include homework guidance, skills learning and other social activities.

Mr Tsang saw the students who had joined the ASCP engaged in a variety of activities and talked to them to find out about their learning conditions in the centre.
