The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 6) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $56,000 on behalf of 25 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the tribunal¡¦s hearing today, one of the defendants, Tang Wing On Dick trading as (Dick) Japan Auto Parts Company, did not dispute the amount claimed. The adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $30,765.5, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other five defendants, namely Cheng Kung Investment Company Limited, Excellence 08 Limited trading as Golden Jade Seafood City, Legend Enterprises Company Limited, Wong Wing Keung trading as Yau Luen Engineering Co., and Equal Link Limited, did not appear at today¡¦s hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $16,300, $5,739.9, $2,315.14, $637.59, and $280, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The adjudicator further ordered the respective defendants to pay $190, $96, $109, $76, $200 and $146 as the costs in respect of the claims.
