*********************************************************

The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, today (January 21) went to Ocean Park to get a better understanding of the working conditions of food and beverage trainees under the Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme (YWETS).

Accompanied by the Commissioner for Labour, Mrs Cherry Tse, and the Deputy Chief Executive of Ocean Park, Mr Matthias Li, Mr Tsang first met six trainees in fast food kiosks where he observed their work and talked to them to learn about their working life.

Mr Tsang had a soft drink in a park restaurant and said he was impressed by the services provided by the trainees there.

During the visit, Mr Tsang was briefed on the "Ocean Park Theme Park Food and Beverage Trainee Scheme" jointly launched by YWETS of the Labour Department, Ocean Park and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.

The scheme caters for young people aged between 15 and 24 and aims to enhance their employability in the food and beverage industry. Through the provision of on-the-job training, the trainees acquire work experience and job skills, and brighten their employment prospects. A total of 23 trainees have joined the food and beverage trainee scheme.

To end the visit, Mr Tsang shared his views and experiences with the trainees and encouraged them to strive to achieve their career goals.

During his visit, Mr Tsang also took the chance to chat with tourists in the park and wished them a happy Lunar New Year of the Ox.
