Company and woman fined for illegal clubhouse operation
*******************************************************

A company and a woman were each fined $2,000 today (December 17) for offences contrary to the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The Kowloon City Magistrates' Court heard that a clubhouse in Liberty Avenue, Homantin, operating with a certificate of compliance (CoC) under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance, was inspected by officers of the Office of the Licensing Authority of the Home Affairs Department in June this year. The officers, posing as customers, patronised the clubhouse for meals without being asked to show their membership status and without being invited to join the club as members. Special Condition 1 of the CoC, which stipulates that the clubhouse is to be used only by the club, its members and their accompanied guests at all times, was breached.

The company, holder of the CoC, and the woman, operator of the clubhouse, were therefore charged for offences contrary to Section 21 of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said robust enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations.
