Employer fined for violation of safety rule

     Eternal Year Property Services Limited was fined $12,000 at Eastern Magistrates' Court today (December 9) for violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident which occurred on April 17 inside a private estate on Conduit Road. A worker fell to death from the top of the retaining wall belonging to the private estate.

     According to 6(1), 6(2)(a), 6(2)(c) & 6(2)(d)(ii) of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance, the employer shall, so far as reasonably practicable, ensure the safety and health of all employees. Any employer who fails to do so is liable on conviction to a fine of $200,000 and to imprisonment for six months.
