Company fined for illegal club operation
****************************************

A company which had been operating a clubhouse with a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) in Central was today (December 9) fined $1,200 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The Eastern Magistrates' Court heard that the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of Home Affairs Department had inspected the club, in D'Aguilar Street in June.

During the investigation, inspectors of OLA, posing as customers, patronised the clubhouse for food without being asked to show  membership status or being invited to join the club as members.  The company, holder of the CoC, was found to be in contravention of the Condition No 19 of the CoC, and was subsequently charged with contravening section 21(2) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said robust enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal club operations.
