The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 19) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $108,000 on behalf of 15 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
Six defendants, Lee Loi Holdings Development Limited trading as Pei Hoa Rest. & Preserved Meat Co, Top Success International Limited, Best Wealth Enterprise Limited trading as Delight Restaurant, The Montessori School of Hong Kong Limited, Kam Cheung Transportation Co Limited and Chan Hoi On trading as A. Design Consultant Co, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $49,377.06, $22,542.50, $19,339.40, $12,838.92, $3,096.69 and $1,948.07 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $256, $215, $190, $150, $96 and $150.
