The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 14) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $88,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

Defendants, Ng Kin Hon trading as Hon Wing Engineering Company and Ng Leung Him Philip trading as Tahoma Design Company, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $39,746.34 and $29,242.50, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other three defendants, CF International Group Limited, Spotting Media Limited and Liu Chun Wing formerly trading as Lee Tung Steel Engineering Co, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $10,412.33, $9,189.80 and $220, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $230, $180, $166, $300 and $140.

CF International Group Limited pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to one count of failing to enrol an employee in an MPF scheme as required by the ordinance and was fined $4,000.
