Man fined for illegal club operation
************************************

A man who had been operating a club with a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) in Tsim Sha Tsui was today (October 29) fined $2,000 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The Kowloon City Magistrates' Court heard that a club in Lock Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, had been operating with a CoC under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.  An inspection on the clubhouse was conducted by the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of Home Affairs Department in April.

During the inspection, officers of OLA, posing as customers, patronised the club for food without being asked to show membership status or invited to apply for club membership.  The man, holder of the CoC, was found to be in contravention of Special Condition No 1 of the CoC, and he was subsequently charged with contravening section 21(2) of the ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said robust enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal club operation.
