The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 28) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $67,000 on behalf of 20 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the tribunal's hearing today, seven defendants, namely Fameast Limited, Beauty Yoga Limited, Big English International Limited, Lucky Progress International Limited, Heroism Enterprise Company Limited, Lau Ching Wai trading as Gold Fountain Enterprise and Veranda Products Company Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $40,841.86, $17,613.76, $3,551.25, $2,445.8, $1,850.7, $1,014.1 and $133, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $258, $126, $106, $166, $95, $70 and $56 as the costs in respect of the claims.
