The Legislative Council now invites members of the public and interested parties to express their views on the Employees Retraining Ordinance (Amendment of Schedule 3) Notice 2008.
The Amendment Notice, gazetted on August 1, 2008 and tabled in the Legislative Council on October 8, 2008 for the negative vetting procedure, seeks to suspend the obligation to pay the Employees Retraining Levy ($400 per month for each employee) of employers of foreign domestic helpers and all other employers of imported labour under an approved labour importation scheme for a period of two years from August 1, 2008 to July 31, 2010. A Subcommittee, chaired by Hon Mrs Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, has been formed to study the Amendment Notice. Those interested in giving their views on the Amendment Notice are invited to send their written submissions to the Clerk to the Subcommittee on or before October 28, 2008 (Tuesday). They are also requested to indicate whether they intend to make oral representation to the Subcommittee at the meeting to be held on November 1, 2008 (Saturday) from 9.30am to 12.30pm in the Chamber of the Legislative Council Building. If the submission is available in both Chinese and English, please provide both versions and their softcopy. Submissions received will be made available to the media and the public and uploaded onto the website of the Legislative Council unless advised otherwise. Those who wish to attend the aforesaid meeting are requested to send in their particulars including their names, organisations represented (if applicable), contact telephone and fax numbers.
