The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 20) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $179,000 on behalf of 19 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The seven defendants, Sanga Chaiseeha trading as Lamma Gourmet formerly known as Aroy Thai formerly known as Aloy Thai, Szu Long Limited trading as Ho Yuen Restaurant, High Merit Limited trading as New Fuk Wan Seafood Hotpot Restaurant, Li So formerly trading as Tai Shan Eng Co, Venus Group Limited, Man Ying Kit trading as East Lake Restaurant and Hau York Co., Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $47,958.80, $47,746.66, $39,745.63, $19,405.52, $9,633.75, $9,351.46 and $787.50, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The Adjudicator also ordered Man Ying Kit trading as East Lake Restaurant to pay the MPFA $5,000 being financial penalty imposed by the MPFA for failure to make MPF contributions for employees.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $240, $160, $255, $180, $100, $160 and $158.
