A woman who had been operating a clubhouse with a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) in Kwun Tong was today (October 6) fined $2,000 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
The Kwun Tong Magistrates' Court heard that a club in Yan Oi Court, Kwun Tong, had been operating with a CoC under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance. An inspection of the club was conducted by the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department in May this year.
During the investigation, officers of the OLA, posing as customers, patronised the club for food without being asked to show their membership status or being invited to join the club as members. Furthermore, the membership register could not be presented upon request by inspectors. The woman, holder of the CoC, was found to be in contravention of Special Condition no. 1 and 2 of the CoC, and she was subsequently charged with contravening section 21(2) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
A spokesman for the department said robust enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal club operations.
