29 votes cast in first hour of Yau Tsim Mong DC by-election

     Twenty-nine electors (0.38%) had voted in the first hour of the Yau Tsim Mong District Council Jordan East constituency by-election, which started at 7.30am today (October 5). (The voter turnout figures are for temporary reference only.)

     The polling station, located at Jordan Road Government Primary School, 1B Nanking Street, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon, is open until 10.30pm today for the constituency・s 7,690 registered electors to cast their votes.

     The Electoral Affairs Commission Chairman Mr Justice Pang Kin-kee and member Mr Lawrence Lok Ying-kam, SC, will inspect the polling station this morning.

     The five candidates contesting the by-election are: No. 1, Li King-wah; No. 2, Lau Wai-kwong; No. 3, Ip Ngo-tung Chris; No. 4, Ng Po-shan Austen; and No. 5, Lung Wai-man James.

     A spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office urged electors to cast their votes as early as possible.

     :Voting is very simple. It takes only a few minutes,; he said.

     :All an elector needs to do is to bring along his identity card to the polling station, use the chop provided to stamp the ballot paper with a .tick・ in the circle opposite the name of the chosen candidate, and fold the ballot paper inward in half before putting it into the ballot box,; the spokesman said.

     The polling station will be converted into a counting station once the poll is closed. People are welcome to watch the counting of votes in the designated area in the counting station. The election results will be announced at the counting station.

     An election hotline, 2891 1001, will operate until 11pm to answer enquiries relating to the by-election.

     A complaint hotline, 2827 7251, will be in service until 10.30pm to handle complaints about breaches of electoral rules and guidelines.
