The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 30) obtained an order in the District Court against an employer for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $220,000. The MPFA also pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $90,000 on behalf of 11 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court today issued judgment against Bonding Engineering Company Limited which was ordered to pay the MPFA $220,331.98, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to eight employees.
At the tribunal's hearing today, Apple Green Limited (formerly known as Uni-Pac International Real Estate Consultants Limited), did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $2,413.64, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other four defendants, Szu Long Limited trading as Ho Yuen Restaurant, LCW International Limited, Supply Chain & Logistics Technology Limited and Wong Wing Man trading as Billy Lun Consultation Company, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $48,175.38, $36,052.34, $5,250 and $2,641.92, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $164, $236, $256, $106 and $140.
