Transcript of remarks by Secretary for Education
************************************************

Following is a transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, after attending the ˇ§Salute to Teachers 2008 ˇV Teachers' Day and Commendation Certificate Presentation Ceremonyˇ¨today (September 12):

Reporter:...

Secretary for Education: I think it is an undeniable fact that the number of children in a particular cohort is dropping. So it brings about pressure on the schools and teachers. But we have been taking effective measures to alleviate the situation. We have lowered the number of students per class in the allocation of places. And also we have revised the minimum number of students per class. We believe that these are effective measures to relieve pressure. Against this background, the number of schools which are affected is four. This is a marked drop from the original around 20 schools affected.
